BBQ In The Burbs

A bunch of the gang braved a trip from the city into the burbs for a morning of breakfeasting on a day of epic sunshine.  I guess that was back before I was riding since a group of the dudes road out there and I went with the fam in the car.  Potluck style and everyone stepped up because the spread was deluxe.

Mommy's Day 2012

Mothers Day seems like so long ago right now looking back, and the kind of weather that we had on that day also seems like a different planet from the Seattle that we've been living on since about that time.  Right now its June-uary here and we might not see summer until it's customary July 5th arrival.  But this day was absolutely glorious, and even though Annie had to settle into her studies later in the day we made the most of the morning.

I prepped things the night before and so not long after getting up I had the Ute fully loaded and we were ready to roll.  To where?  Exactly, it was a surprise.  We leisurely strolled West and then South along the Greenwood spine, aka Phinney Ridge, then dropped down into upper Ballard to one of our favorite old cafe's pre-Kian.  But there was an epic line at Cafe Besalu that stretched out the door and up the sidewalk, and I purposely decided against a mothers day breakfast out to avoid the lines and a busy crazy breakfast and so I was in no mood.  Fortunately, next door to Besalu is the Tall Grass Bakery which makes exquisite whole natural baked goods of all kinds and so I sent Annie in with my card.

Then we set off again, down to Market Street then a right turn onto the trail and all the way out to Golden Gardens park where we found a picnic table under a tree in the sand with a blue Puget Sound stretched out in front of us.  I'd cooked up coffee, prepped a huge bowl of fresh fruits, made fresh juice, brought the yogurt and the milk to go with the granola and amazing scones that we'd just bought.  A picnic brunch!

We played baseball in the sand for hours, the three of us had a little game going, and Kian amazed everyone around us with his slugging and throwing skills.  By 11am or so the place had already gathered quite the crowd but when we left in mid-afternoon it was getting overly busy and you could tell that it was going to be a zoo before long, so it worked out well for us.  And on bikes, no parking hassels.

Awesome day and Happy Mothers Day, Mommy!
